Description of Equine Shigellosis Disease:

Shigella bacteria, contracted via contaminated food and water, causes acute infection of the small intestine, resulting in shigellosis.

Symptoms of Equine Shigellosis:

If your horse exhibits symptoms such as

• diahorrea
• fever
• Blood and mucous in the stools

Treatment of Equine Shigellosis Disease:

You should call your vet who will test for shigellosis. Treatment will centre around ensuring fluid loss is rapidly replaced. Antibiotics may be prescribed.
